How to Stay Fit and Healthy During Your Cruise Holiday

Press of a manYour cruise holiday is a time to relax, indulge, revitalize, reinvigorate and generally enjoy yourself. However, with the vast array of 24 hour dining and drinking options available on most modern cruise lines it is very easy to overdo it, add a few pounds and feel a little unwell.

In this blog post I would like to explore some of my top tips to staying fit and healthy during a cruise holiday so that you disembark feeling fitter and healthier than when you embarked.

Use the Gym

This is perhaps the most obvious tip on my list, take advantage of the gym! Most cruise ships come with a fully equipped on-board gym that is stocked with the latest work out machines. If you want to stay in shape during your holiday make use of the gym. Whether you go every day of your cruise or only use it a couple of times, a good workout in the gym will have you feeling fit and healthy.

If you don't enjoy working out in the gym many cruise lines offer private workouts in the privacy of your own cabin via the TV.

fit and healthyEnjoy Active Excursions

Cruises these days come with a wide range of excursions designed to let you fully explore every port of call on your cruise. Don't just lounge about on-board when your ship pulls into port, get off and explore with active excursions such as kayaking, cycle tours, snorkelling or scuba diving.

Play Sports

Cruise ships are a haven for sports fanatics! Many modern cruise ships have extensive sporting facilities on-board so you can enjoy a game of your favourite sport. Many cruise ships include facilities for tennis, basketball, soccer, ice skating and boxing. Playing sports is a fantastic way to burn off a few pounds while having fun at the same time.

Go Easy at the Buffet

It is easy to go overboard, excuse the pun, at the buffet on a cruise ship with the vast selection of different foods available. However, usually one is enough for you to have a nice breakfast, luch or dinner.

Whilst enjoying the buffet remember to take your time when eating. If you eat quickly you won't feel full till 15-20 minutes after you began which could lead to overeating. The food is delicious, take your time and savour every mouthful.

Unwind in the Spa

Remember you are on holiday and one of the main aims of a holiday is to relax and unwind. While on your cruise head to the on-board spa for a range of spa treatments including massages, acupuncture and facials. These will relax, invigorate and rejuvenate you making you feel happier and healthier.
