Google Nest Mini: What Is It?

As you build your smart home, why not invest in the next generation of smart speaker. If you remember, back in 2017, Google gave us the Google Home Mini. It was intended to be the main hub for your smart home. It also acted as a speaker and was quite cheap. Now Google have brought us the Google Nest Mini! This updated version of the Home Mini has a few tricks up its sleeves!

You will be able to stream YouTube Music, Spotify, and loads of other apps. If your television is Chromecast-enabled, the Nest Mini can send YouTube videos. There is also the ability to control devices around your home like lights and security. There is also the chance to hook it up to your phone and speak to anyone within your home.

The first thing to notice is that it has the same size and design as its predecessor. But with the Nest Mini, you get a choice of colours which include a grey-blue which is known as Sky, Coral, Charcoal, and Chalk. This will allow to mix and match the speakers to match your home. One thing to know about the Nest Mini is that it’s mainly made from recycled material. Yes, it’s made with plastic bottles.

Although both the Nest Mini and the Home mini are very similar, there has been several updates added to the Nest Mini. The Nest Mini comes with three microphones that can recognise your voice from anywhere in the room. It can also hear you as it plays music and the Next Mini also uses a type of ultrasound to detect you as you approach it.

The Nest Mini comes with a slightly larger speaker that gives the sound quality a bit of a boost. This also adds to the bass tone of the speaker. The speaker also contains what google calls Ambient IQ. This means as you play music or podcasts, the speaker adjusts to background noises so you can hear it clearly without any disturbance.

Amazingly, the Nest Mini comes with a learning chip that holds one TeraOPS of processing power. This chip allows the speaker to learn actions that are repeated often by those who live in the house. The Nest Mini learns them and carries out these tasks. These can include turning on lights or playing music at a certain time. This Nest Mini doesn’t use the Google servers to store this information, nor does it need to contact the cloud.
