Spring 2016 Skincare Checklist

Spring 2016 Skincare ChecklistWhether you’re preparing for spring break or are just getting back from one, take advantage of this season’s best practices for spring skin and beauty care.

  1. Warm Weather Acne Prevention

While you can take a vacation from work or school, you just can’t seem to get

away from those pesky pimples. In fact, warm weather can bring additional acne. So, toss out the image of your radiant skin with last year’s outdated bikini… Wait! Not so fast. It’s okay to ditch the old bikini, but keep that image of a blemish-free complexion in your mind. We’re going to help you pave the way to radiant skin. First, we’ll let you in on some of the causes of warm weather acne. Then, we’ll talk about prevention.

Warm weather acne flare-ups are caused by a variety of factors. To protect our skin, we tend to slather on tons of sunscreen, which has its benefits. However, sunscreens can often be comedogenic and oily. Good ole’ sunscreen lotion can turn into an evil ole’ pore clogging potion. Clogged pores become breeding grounds for the bacteria that causes acne.

Also, in warm people tend to sweat more, and some excessively sweat. This can lead to additional summer acne, especially in the areas where hats, sweat bands or tight clothes trap the sweat (and thus the bacteria therein) on the skin. Finally, direct sun exposure can aggravate your already irritated zit zones, as the harsh UV rays can inflame skin further.

As with many problems, the keys to prevention are found in the causes. So take your tips from the causes of warm weather acne: use a non-comedogenic sunscreen (and makeup!) that is oil free.

Spring clean your skincare routine by taking a fresh look at the latest product comparisons — including reviews of name brands like Proactive, Neutrogena, Murad, etc., before you buy. Be sure to stick to a skin care regime that includes unclogging those pores, including gentle exfoliation that helps remove dead skin that contributes to clogged pores. Also, if you tend to sweat, be sure to wear looser, breathable clothing, change clothes immediately after exercise, and wash with a mild cleanser; and take care not to overdo it in the sun.

Now, recall your image of blemish-free skin. It’s been realized with a little warm weather pimple prevention!

  1. Sun Protection

Never underestimate the power of the sun. Its UVA and UVB rays can damage and age skin, as well as cause skin cancer. The consequences of not taking adequate protection seriously, at the very least, will leave you complaining about your leathery, old-looking skin. At the very worst and most serious, overdoing the sun can leave you with deadly forms of skin cancer. So, why do we insist on frolicking in the sun and bronzing our bodies? Oh, because it’s so fun play at the beach, model our new bikinis at the pool, and get a tan that makes you feel like a healthy summer goddess!

Like the causes of summer acne, the solutions to the dreaded consequences of sun exposure are found in the causes themselves. So, protect yourself from UVA and UVB rays with a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30; for adequate protection, reapply sunscreen as directed on the label; wear protective clothing, which includes fabrics that are not wet and are tightly woven; plan your time outside for early morning or late afternoon, when the sun’s rays are less damaging; and seek shade, under natural foliage or umbrellas, and finally avoid fake bake — that means NO TANNING BOOTHS, as those can cause the same problems as the sun. In fact, check out thebest indoor tanning lotionsthat will leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and hydrated. This should help you feel protected under the sun’s rays.

All that said, you can still model your bikini poolside under an umbrella. And using sunless tanning products is a fantastic way to feel like the goddess you already are with or without a tan!

  1. Spring’s Makeup Trends

You can’t leave for break without knowing some of 2016’s hottest spring makeup trends! Get ready to be bold and pack your glitter and electric blue eye shadow. The reign of the “natural look” is now over.

At this year’s fashion week, models strutted down the runways with no shame and more than enough moxie in their make-up to obscure their clothing!

Here’s was to expect from those with the sass to strut down the beaches and through the nightclubs this spring: a range of radiant blue eye shadows, from a powder pastel spread across the lids and bridge of the nose bandit-style to the more traditional electric or cobalt blue on the lids in less than subtle quantities; glitter on the eyelids, across the bridge of the nose, on the forehead and in the a part of your hair — glitter, glitter everywhere; bold lipsticks in candy apple red, oxblood and orange, let your pretty pout do all the talking, without saying a word; and dangerously long false eye-lashes that not only catch the eye but, like a Venus Flytrap, will catch that fine beach guy.

With your makeup tote packed we can officially say — “check” to spring’s make up trends. Let’s get our spring break on!
