Simple way to keep your surroundings green & fresh

frerfrfWhen we see a garden, whether public or a house or farm, we see trees, flowers, flower beds and various elements that catch our eye and really the grass plays in the background. It seems that the grass is supposed to be there, without cost, without care, you can step on and nothing happens.

For those who have to take care of it, well know that the lawn requires various tasks to keep it without baldness, a uniform green and well cut (pruning) and delimited. Repeated mowing and continuous trampling are the toughest task for a lawn.

In addition to mowing and disease treatments, here are some steps to help keep it in perfect condition. Some are laborious too. We have said some steps, not simple and easy steps … ? Let’s do it.

  1. Scarification and aeration

Aerated and scarifier are operations whose purpose is to drill the lawn regularly with a fork in two perpendicular passages. We will be releasing the grass a little and avoid the dreaded compaction. In spring it is essential to make an aeration and in autumn can also make another.

The scarification also allows to raise what is called felt. Felt is a compendium of crushed grass, roots and solid soil that is becoming increasingly impermeable. Scratching with the gallows, we will raise the felt and also we will take before us some weeds of shallow root. Spring will also be key to doing a scarification of the lawn.

  1. Fertilization

Fertilization is another important point, depending on the type of plants, you will need more or less. Fertilization helps the plants to grow more robust and with more vigor, preventing or hindering at least the growth of some weeds. The base of this fertilization should be nitrogenous, although it does not harm a balanced fertilization in nutrients.

  1. The ruled

It seems that this operation contradicts the aeration in terms of its mechanical action since, after all, the roulade is to compact. It is obvious that depending on the state of the turf it will suit one operation or another. Obviously, if the soil is very clayey and tends to be compacted, the ruling should be avoided or made when the soil is dry. After sowing or reseeding it is convenient to pass the roll for example. If the surface is very uneven from wear and tear, it is also advisable to level. In other occasions it is done to avoid that they dry roots that have been raised for diverse reasons as it can be a very severe raking or by a bad height of cut.

  1. Edge trimming

Here we enter “high hairdressing”. If we want to limit the edges of gravel or dirt roads, or we have edges with flower beds, we must limit the expansion of the lawn by cutting with a profiler or a garden spade that we nail in the cut area and with a dry blow. We will cut the roots cleanly. At the beginning of spring is the best time to perform this cutting operation.

  1. Weeding

The elimination of weeds is a fact that has always been suffered in any agricultural discipline, whether for intensive crops or the garden of a house. Dandelions are a common companion as well as plantain among many others that tend to invade the terrain. In a small garden, annuals are relatively easy to get rid of them manually, with patience and some time.

Dandelion should be ripped from the root, not cut. It has a very deep and resistant pivot root that we must eliminate. There are root pullers that we can buy for this purpose. It is not easy to get rid of them. It all depends on the type of lawn you want.

For a lawn like a soccer field or golf, we will have no choice but to resort to this type of herbicides.

If you do not mind having a somewhat more rustic lawn with some adventitious grass, you will avoid being overly concerned about the state of the lawn and weeds. It is another more relaxed way of seeing the garden.

  1. Leaf cleaning in autumn

We already know what the autumn leaves are about in the garden. It is good to remove them because it prevent cryptogamic diseases. The typical light fan rake will be sufficient to drag these leaves without damaging the lawn. At the entrance of the autumn leaves in the garden you will see what you can do with them.

Keeping surrounds fresh pruning involves several factors: – The climatic variations, the time of year and the age of the plant; All of which affect the growth of the plant in question.

Pruning consists of the periodic elimination of the dead portions or those that affect the appearance of the plant. The main pruning is done in winter, when the deciduous plants are at rest. Other less drastic pruning may be carried out where necessary.

It is important to prune it periodically, putting into practice the pruning of maintenance. Similarly, after sowing it is important that we practice pruning to ensure that its growth is going to be the best.

However, to perform any of the types of pruning that we have seen in other entries is important that we know the tools that are used to perform this task. Pay close attention:

Pruning shears of a hand: this type of scissors is used to cut branches that measure up to 2 centimeters in diameter.

Two-pruning shears: this type of scissors is used to cut or prune branches that measure up to 4 centimeters in diameter.

Tools for tree trimming

Ax

This is also a manual tool that we will use with trees that have branches of a large thickness and that we cannot cut with the tools mentioned above. We can also cut large tree trunks that are diseased or dried out.

Chainsaw

If what we need is the cutting of a large tree and we want to do it in a mechanized or motorized way we can use the best chainsaws for home. These tools can be electric or gasoline and for each specific case we will use the one that best suits our needs.

Keep in mind that in addition to the tools it is of vital importance that we take care of and keep ourselves safe using protectors such as helmets, gloves and appropriate clothing (there are some pants made with certain fibers that upon contact with the chainsaw make the latter become Block) to perform this task. If for example the case deserves it we would also have to think, in ropes, stairs, harnesses and other elements that can be of great help to us to keep us safe.

If you are going to put yourself in the task of pruning your trees, It is recommend that you get high quality tools. Remember also that all the tools that we use must be very sharp, very clean and totally disinfected.

Some BASIC TOOLS for the GARDEN:

1.- Scissors for pruning of two hands to make cuts clean in the branches. Thanks to their long handles the two-handed scissors can cut branches up to 40 mm in diameter.

2.- Backpack spray, ideal to moisten the plants, clean the leaves or apply phytosanitary products in case of pests and diseases.

3.- Cutters (special scissors) suitable for use in shaping both small and soft hedges and hardwood and woody tree hedges etc.

4.- Compost silo to store waste produced in the garden.

5.- Rollers or garden rollers to prepare the soil before planting or plants, especially on uneven surfaces. Before planting the lawn or applying trowels it is necessary to get a flat and regular surface, that is when heavy and resistant rollers are very useful.

6.- Barbed roller or scarifier. The purpose of the barbed roller is to break the upper crust of the ground to favor the entry of air (oxygen) into the ground.

7.- Rake is a basic tool that is mainly used to level the soil and get a surface free of stones and caked earth.

OTHER TOOLS for the Garden, very useful:

– Machines with motor: Brushcutters, Mowers, Chainsaws, Leaf vacuum cleaners … etc
