Located in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines, Cebu is a province that boasts one main island and over 167 smaller islands. The province is home to over three million residents and the capital is Cebu City. Cebu City is the second largest urban center in the Philippines after Manila. With its lush tropical landscape and white-sand beaches, Cebu is a popular destination for travelers around the world. The island region has a unique blend of Spanish culture merged with Filipino traditions. Not only is Cebu a popular tourist destination, but it’s also a busy shipping hub and a leading exporter of furniture and natural resources. Some of the popular tourist sites in Cebu include the Bagacay Point Lighthouse and Tingko Beach in Alkoy.

Best Time to Visit Cebu

According to various travel guides, the best time to visit Cebu is between January and February and November and December. These are the winter months in Cebu, and the weather is more comfortable. During the summer months of March through May, the weather in Cebu is very hot and humid. While the months of September and November are also less humid, this is during typhoon season. Like hurricanes in the western hemisphere, typhoons can bring catastrophic flooding and cause widespread devastation. Cebu has a rainy season that lasts from June till October. During this time of the year, the days are usually cloudy for half of the day and then rainy for the other half.

Unlike the winter in North America, the winter in Cebu is very dry and comfortable. If you want to be extra certain you won’t run into the path of a typhoon, aim for the months of January and February instead of December. During the winter in Cebu, the temperature usually climbs to a maximum of 82 °F. Aside from the weather, every year in January Filipinos take part in the Sinulog festival. Cebu City is the home to this Catholic tradition that draws in a crowd of up to two million people each year. On Sinulog eve, there are many street parties full of dancing and food – a perfect way to experience Cebu culture first-hand. At the end of the day, the weather in Cebu and the rest of the Philippines island is never guaranteed. On one day it could rain the entire day, and on the next, it could be scorching hot and full of humidity. Your best bet is to travel to Cebu between November and February.
