Uses for a Conservatory

ConservatoryThe addition of a conservatory to a home is a real bonus. Not only does it provide extra living space, but it can bump up the value of your home, if you ever decided to sell. The great thing about a conservatory is that it is so versatile; it can be used for all manner of purposes.

Living area

A conservatory is a great way to add space to your current living area. The bright, light and warm conditions make it a perfect place to relax and unwind. The market for conservatory furniture is big, so you can choose from a wide range of stylish sofas, or opt for traditional ones.

Dining area

If you don’t have adequate dining space, then you could transform your conservatory into an area for dining and entertaining. Conservatory floors are usually tiled or made from stone, so they are easy to clean and maintain-perfect if you have dinner parties.

Extension of kitchen

If your conservatory is situated close to your kitchen, you could allow the two rooms to merge, giving you more culinary space to prepare, cook and serve meals, as well as entertain guests.

Study

If you work from home or the children need a quiet place to retreat to, to complete their homework, then a conservatory could make the ideal venue. The bright and airy conditions means it’s perfect for clearly seeing what you are doing. However, you might want to consider adding blinds for days when the glare of the sun becomes too bright.

Games room

Many people turn their conservatory into a games room for the kids, or for adults who are kids at heart! You could add a pool or football table, for instance, or fill it with games and toys so your little ones have the space to spread out and cause chaos!

Greenhouse

If you’re green fingered but don’t have the outside space for a greenhouse, then a conservatory offers you everything you need to get tender plants growing. If your conservatory faces in a sunny south or westerly direction, you could even grow all manner of tropical plants. Ambitious horticulturists may even decide to turn it into an orangery and grow vines.

Gym

Provided your conservatory has adequate ventilation, why not consider turning it into a home gym? You don’t need to go overboard buying extensive equipment-even just an exercise bike, treadmill or a rowing machine would be enough to give you the impetus to get fit.

Bedroom

It might seem like an unusual choice, but you could even turn your conservatory into a spare bedroom. Because of temperature fluctuations throughout the year, however, you’ll need to make sure that you can modify the heating so that it is fairly constant.

Sunroom

If you love the warmth of the sun, then a conservatory will become your best friend. It makes for the ideal sunroom, and is perfect for whiling away the time in, on days when it might not be warm enough to sit out in the garden.

Hobby room

Because you get great light levels in a conservatory, it makes an ideal room for doing hobbies. Whether you enjoy painting at an easel, doing intricate modelling or craftwork, or using a sewing machine to make clothes, most hobbies would be perfectly suited to this room.
