The Principles of Modern Interior Design

modern-interiorThis article intends to show you the main principle guiding modern interior design with few useful and simple tips to follow to customize your design and make your house or apartment unique.

First of all, what is modern interior design? Modern interiors are generally smooth, spacious, simple, and are characterized by being functional. No messy or chaotic rooms have to do with modern interior design. It also embraces basic geometry and clean lines in furniture and architecture and the use of industrial materials like chrome, glass and concrete all of which is coupled with the use of the last technologies. All should reflect your personality and taste.

Some of the guiding principles reflecting the cornerstones of modern interior design are for example simplicity, functionality, open spaces/light, mood and personality. First of all however proper planning should be done.

Planning.

Before painting and rearranging, spend some time thinking about your family and how you live. Look through magazines for inspiration and pull out ideas or rooms that appeal to you. Gather things from around the house that make you feel good and study them carefully for color cues and perhaps a clue to the mood you’re looking for in your home. This is the beginning of a well-planned and decorated living area.

Simplicity.

The first idea is to keep it simple. Make sure that you incorporate it into your space, keep things as uncluttered as possible. Studies have shown that clutter can lead to stress in your life so keeping your decor simple will help alleviate some of your stresses.

Function.

This varies greatly from room to room but when you go into a room, it should be easy to access and use various items in it. So, for example, a kitchen that is designed with modern design should have ample workroom and everything should be easy to access. Keep in mind the concept of focal point. Often rooms have natural focal points (places the eyes travel to immediately upon entering a room) like a fireplace, a bay window with a view, maybe even a built-in bookcase. If the room doesn’t have a natural focal point, create one with a dynamic piece of art or a colorful rug.

Open spaces and light.

Have a lot of open space in your home. This may not always be possible especially if you live in small apartment. But this can be overweight creating the appearance of open spaces by using color, fabrics and furniture. You can also use motorized blinds that are light in color and airy in feel to create an open feel in to the room. These remote control blinds are offering a great opportunity to bring light to your room while maintaining your privacy during the evening. Motorized blinds can be of various types i.e. roller blinds, wooden blinds, roman blinds, venetian electronic blinds, vertical blinds, curtain tracks to mention the most important ones. The use of motorized blinds incorporates the idea of technology which is quite crucial in modern design. Choose the type of remote control blind that best suit your taste, fits your house and allow being in line with the rest of the house and offering the best light effect in your room.

Mood.

The mood or feeling of a room is created by your choice of colors, the style of furnishings, the amount of texture and pattern you choose and your accessories. Start with some source of inspiration following your creativity and let it develop into a theme. Botanical prints, striped walls, greens and floral colors, formal fabrics and furniture, dark woods and black accents could be part of your theme.

Personality.

An additional principle for a modern interior design in your home is to add a little bit of character to the space. This can be done choosing the appropriate accessories and the proper color. For accessories, choose art pieces rather than accessories. Art pieces can have their unique style and appeal, and to serve as a focal point in a space. Geometric-patterned or plain area rugs provide accent colors and accentuate the bold look of modern interiors. Which color to choose to imprint your personality? Modern designers embrace pure color, black, white, and neutrals with vibrant primary colors to provide colorful accents. However, don't use too many different colors otherwise it will overpower the balance of the room.

Finally, don't forget that the sustainability aspect. More and more designers are reclaiming materials for use in modern design, and building from renewable resources. And some pieces of recycled materials can instill a sense of beauty and creativeness by its own.
