How to Design the Living Room with Some Modern Furniture

Are you tired of seeing your dull living area? Are you thinking of designing and adding more life into it but you just don't know where and how to start? If you answered yes, then adding some spice to your plain living area can be done easily. With just a little creativity, a good look at your personal style and some modern furniture, you can turn the living room into more than just a couch and table space.

Here are some tips in designing your living room with modern furniture.

1. Decide on your theme

Your living area should have a theme so it will be easier for you to mix and match the furniture. If you want your living room to create a classic look, use neutral tones and velvet upholstered furniture. If you want to make it modern, stock your couch with the latest hues and cap it off with geometric-pattern rugs. If you want to go all white, then pair it up with accent pillows in bright hues or eclectic patterns.

2. Design according to your available space

Your space is the most important consideration when designing your living room. If you have a cramped space, then don't go for large furniture. Mirror or unconventional pieces may work to make your living area look bigger. On the other hand, a large area calls for oversized pieces. The important thing is to place the furniture in a way that is easy to navigate.

3. It's time to shop for furniture

Now that you've established your space, it's time to look into furniture that is most suitable to your area. For smaller spaces, a two or three-seater couch combined with an eclectic-designed chair can do the trick. But if you have a bigger space, you can go for bigger couch with a love seat or a one-seater chair in contrast colours on each side of the center table.

If possible, stay away from antique or dark colours. It gives a heavy uncomfortable and less intimate feeling.

4. Create a focal point

The focal point draws attention to your living room. Naturally, a fire place or window is the focal point. But if that feature is not available, you can still draw attention by placing a stunning piece of art, a large piece of furniture, or a mirror. The important thing is that the focal point should blend well with the design of your space.

5. Make an area for conversation

Living room is an area where people gather. Aside from improving the aesthetic look, the furniture should be arranged in such a way that people can easily talk to each other.

6. Dress your windows

Curtains work in two ways. It shields your home from the public eye and adds colour and life to your living area. Use relaxing shades with simple patterns depending on the shade of your living area. Just make sure the curtain complements your furniture.

7. Accessorize

Accent your furniture with a boldly patterned rug, throw pillows with bright colours or intricate patterns or look for statement pieces. Combine throw pillows of different shapes and patterns or incorporate a chair that is in contrast to your couch. Use woven pieces or trays as a center piece instead of the usual flowers.

Aside from these tips, make sure to update your living room as if you are updating your wardrobe. Add new accessories each season to create a more modern look. And remember, a well-designed living area can affect your mood in a positive way.
