How to Clean Roller Blinds

blindsRoller blinds are a functional and very versatile accessory for your house. Even if you don’t have a unique cleaning fabric, it is still possible to clean your blind whenever they need some cleaning. There are a couple of ways to clean your blinds, depending on the type of dirt or stain. As with any other piece of furniture or accessory in your space, your blinds will need to be adequately cleaned and maintained for them to remain in pristine and good condition.

Like most things in the house, when you buy curtains online, they will accumulate dirt and dust over time. They usually come from outside, and you might also transfer them onto the blinds with your fingers. Here are the steps that you will need to follow when carrying out regular cleaning on your blinds. These tips are easy to follow, and they are also effective.

Step 1; Extend your blinds

The first step before you begin cleaning your blinds is to extend them fully. This ensures that you can clean the entire length of the material.

Step 2; Vacuuming the material

Using your brush attachment, start vacuuming the blinds while moving your brush from left to right. Also, start cleaning from the top, working your way towards the bottom. This step is essential since it enables you to get rid of any dirt or debris stuck on your blinders before you begin wiping or cleaning them. If you skip this step and go straight to cleaning with water, you might end up moving the dirt around rather than cleaning your blinds properly.

Step 3; Fill your bowl with lukewarm water and cleaning detergent

Add about a tablespoon of detergent and a liter of lukewarm water and stir the mixture together until it forms suds. Refrain from using harsh soaps or bleach as this will discolor and damage your blinds. Next, submerge a sponge or dishcloth into the water and wring out the excess water before proceeding to wipe your blinds.

Step 4; Cleaning the blinds

You can begin wiping your blinds starting from the top downwards with a back-and-forth motion. If there are large stains present, you can give your blinds a deeper scrub to get rid o them. Keep rinsing your dishcloth as you go along to ensure that each part is as clean as possible.

Step 5; Stain removal

Sometimes the stains on your blind will be adamant, which means that they will not come off quickly when you only use soapy water. In such a case, the best solution would be to use a fabric stain remover while ensuring that you follow the instructions. Try using it on a small part of your blinds first to test if it is safe to use on your blinds.

Step 6; Leave the blinds extended to dry

During a regular cleaning, your blinds will not be saturated with water. Because of this, they don’t take a long while to dry. Leaving your blinds extended as they dry out will ensure that they are dry before retracting them.

These steps will help you achieve clean blinds every time you carry out regular cleaning. If your blinds have too much dirt or deep stains and require more attention, you can soak them to help these stains come out.
