DIY Tips For A Fresh Kitchen Look

granite-kitchen-worktops-1Contrary to popular belief, the living room is not the place you spend most of your time. The kitchen is actually where you will find most of your family members linger. Naturally, keeping the kitchen fresh in terms of how it looks is important whether you are looking to sell or not. That can be achieved with just a couple of DIY tips and without serious investments of both time and money. Here are a couple of tips that can liven up your kitchen.

  1. Make a Kitchen Garden

You probably already have a couple of pot plants and flowers scattered around the house, but the kitchen is actually a great place for a decorative growth as well. Place a couple of small plants in the corners of your counter or on the window edges and watch as they brighten up the place. Best for these would be small cacti and other plants that don’t require a lot of upkeep and are always green. Another great thing about these plants is that they can easily be rotated and moved around so you can apply the same trick over and over.

  1. New Shelves

Every kitchen has at least a couple of storage compartments that house spatulas and other tools that are not used in the kitchen so often. So why not add a hanging shelf on an empty piece of wall in the kitchen and display some of these. The effects can have multiple benefits. First, your kitchen will look much more complete, and second, looking at the tools like a manual egg beater will make you more inclined to actually use them and be creative with your cooking.

  1. Small Visual Changes

When your kitchen becomes visually stale, there are plenty of things you can do that don’t require a lot of money or effort. For example, try adding or changing kitchen rugs and you will notice an immediate change. Or perhaps change the color of the door handles and hinges on your cabinets. Hang an interesting picture on an empty piece of wall. You don’t need a new coat of paint (although that can help as well) in order to freshen up your kitchen visually. Something as simple as a table cloth change can hugely impact the overall feel of your kitchen.

  1. Bring Back The Old Shine

People always tend to misinterpret a tip stating you should clean up your kitchen because obviously, your kitchen is clean. But actually, it can always get better. For example, wooden kitchen cabinets lose some of their shine after a couple of years. This is something you can easily address by having them thoroughly polished. While you are at it, try shining up your faucet and other metal appliances. The impact will be quite obvious and it will give off a feel of recent remodelling.

There are lots of things you can play with that can liven up your kitchen: lighting, top surface replacements, new small appliances, etc… Depending on your budget and creativity, you can opt for a couple of approaches and the results will be equally impressive as if you had completely remodelled your kitchen.
