Is It Worth It To Work With A Luxury Home Builder?

luxury-houseToday we’re here to discuss the question, “Is it worth it to work with a luxury home builder?”

But to me, that question isn’t nearly as simple as it may seem on the surface. In order to answer that question, I think the answer really depends on one qualifying question: “What type of homeowner are you?”

In my mind, there are really two main types of homes: luxury, and everything else. And there are two main types of homeowners: those looking for a standard, run of the mill home, and those looking for something special.

So whether or not working with a home builder is worth it really depends on what type of homeowner you might be. If you are looking for a cookie cutter home, maybe a starter home, or something very basic, low budget, and quick, then no, it might not be worth it to you to work with a luxury home builder. But if you want something unique, something that will stand out, something high quality, and something that fits a specific style you may be looking for, then yes, it absolutely is worth it.

So that may seem like an oversimplification on the answer. But let me explain some of my reasons why I think luxury home builders are worth the extra costs that might be associated with them:

Quality

You get a level of quality with this type of builder that you just won’t find anywhere else. Most people that are considering working with home builders are people that are in a stage in their life when they are building their dream home, the home the plan on spending the rest of their lives in, or at least the next decade or two. So at this point in their lives, quality has become more important than economy. And realistically, you probably won’t be able to find that level of quality in the workmanship that you are looking for unless you go to a luxury home builder.

Many times these types of builders (and their employees) have more experience. They have more attention to detail than most other builders. They use higher quality materials. These are the types of things that you are probably looking for at this stage, and a home builder will be the type that can deliver on the quality you expect.

Uniqueness

Another reason why some people choose to work with a luxury builder is because of the unique qualities they will be able to get in their home. Again, a home builder isn’t who you would go to for a “run of the mill” type home. They are the type of builder you would seek out if you aren’t looking for a home that will look like every other home on the block. They are the type of builder you would seek out if you want to work with an experienced architect, one that will involve you in the process of coming up with the blueprints. You would work with this type of builder if you want someone that maybe has a design staff on hand.

Hands On

With a high end builder, you know that you will be able to get exactly what you want. If you are working with a lower grade builder, you will have a few different choices to choose from, and that’s it. If you want something different or unique, you are out of luck… or you will have to wait until the house is complete and spend the extra costs to make whatever unique changes you would like.

But with a high end builder, it is the exact opposite. You are able to be involved every step of the way as much as you want. If you don’t like the blueprint they present you with, you can work with them to make whatever changes you want. If you want to add an extra room, make a closet larger, move a bathroom, etc, you have that ability. If you want to incorporate unique building materials or design elements, you can do that. If you want to be involved in the placement of every cupboard and the direction of every lighting concept, you can do that. You aren’t limited to the stock options of a generic builder. You get exactly what you want.
