Planning a Fun (But Safe) Party

No matter what the occasion is, be it a holiday, celebrating a milestone, hosting new neighbors or coworkers, or simply wanting to have fun, hosting a party is a great way to entertain people, spend time with friends, and even meet some new people. A big party can be a lot of fun, but depending on how wild it gets, it can also be pretty hectic.

When hosting a big event like this you want to make sure everyone has fun, but also that everyone stays safe. You don’t have to sacrifice fun for safety though. Here are some tips for making a party enjoyable and safe at the same time.

Refreshing Refreshments

Select what food and drinks you’ll be serving carefully and make sure you have plenty of everything. Sometimes the best part of any party is the food or drinks, so pick a good variety of different things most people will like.

Every party needs good food, and you don’t have to be a professional chef to offer great party food. Simple snacks usually suffice, as long as there is plenty to go around. You don’t have to get too fancy, either. Simple party staples like chips, pretzels, or maybe even some fruit or veggie treys will usually suffice. If you want to serve food with a bit more substance, you can always order catering from a local restaurant. Even fast food places will often cater large orders if you call ahead. Get tacos, burgers, chicken, pizza, or whatever you think will make your guests happy.

Depending on where you live and who your guests are, your party might be enhanced by adding a more taboo but relatively safe refreshment like marijuana. Whether you bake edibles, set out bowls of gummies, or simply pass around a joint, cannabis can set a relaxing, positive mood and put all your guests at ease. Try the Georgia pie strain and see how it enhances the atmosphere so everyone has an even better time.

Of course, a lot of good parties include alcohol. While drinking isn’t necessary for people to enjoy a party, it can certainly liven things up, brings people out of their shells, and just adds to the fun. Choose a good selection of alcohol, from shots to cocktails you can make in advance. Make sure to have a wide range of flavors and offer plenty of water as well so no one gets dehydrated. Be very careful to ensure that everyone there is above the legal drinking age and make sure people are drinking responsibly.

The Festivities

Make sure there’s plenty to do at the party so no one is left feeling bored. Depending on what type of party you want to throw, there are countless things you can provide as entertainment for your guests.

Always make sure to create a playlist with good party music beforehand that you can play throughout the event. Make it long enough that it won’t repeat for a while and try to think of the kind of guests you’ll be having over when you choose the genre and style of music. You should also ensure there’s a good space for people to dance if they want to. Consider moving your furniture around temporarily to create a dance floor or bring a speaker out to your back porch to turn that into the dance space.

Set up a few different areas with different activities. You can have all the food and refreshments in the kitchen, a room for dancing, and another for games or other activities. Try setting up some fun drinking games for people to play, or if you’re able set up a fire pit in the backyard for people to sit and talk. If you have a pool you can tell people to bring their swimsuits and make that a possible activity as well. Get some pool floats so people can relax or hang out in the water.

Keeping it Safe

While it’s important that everyone have fun at your party, you also want to make sure everyone is safe and no one gets hurt. If you invite a large number of people over, it might be difficult to keep an eye on everyone, but setting things up in advance to be safe will help.

Although you should also be having fun at your party, it may be a good idea to refrain from any substances like alcohol or marijuana, or at least limit how much you have if you know your tolerance level. You want to make sure you can focus and keep an eye on how everything is going, which you can’t do effectively unless you’re sober. If you worry about your ability to monitor everything, have a friend help you. They can let you know if they notice any trouble or if someone needs to be cut off from drinking any more.

Make sure everyone has a reliable and safe way to get home before they have any alcohol or cannabis. Do not let anyone drive while under the influence of any substance. If they haven’t made arrangements themselves, offer to sort it out rather than letting them go off on their own. See what options are available in your area for safe transport. Consider also setting up a guest room or your couch for anyone who doesn’t have a way to safely get home. It may be inconvenient, but it’s important to prevent anyone from getting seriously hurt.

Parties are great ways to have fun with people, but they can take a lot of work to plan. It can be especially hard to make your party not only fun but also safe for everyone, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Be a responsible party host and make sure everyone has a good time without getting hurt.
