Great Tips to Save Energy at Home

Save Energy at HomeDo you hate the big power bills every month? Here are great tips that will reduce your energy consumption and would save you money.

  1. Buy CFL bulbs-replace the traditional lights and bulbs in your home with CFL bulbs or Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs. They use almost 75 per cent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. CFL bulbs may cost you a little more, they last for considerably long duration, saving you money in the long run.

  2. Change your thermostat setting-reduce the thermostat setting on your heating and cooling units. Rather than leaving the heaters on all night long, use hot water bottle and an electrical blanket to heat up your bed. This would make you feel warm and comfortable even if the temperature in the room is a bit cold.

  3. Install solar panels-solar panels use sun's energy, renewable source of energy, for running various electrical appliances at your home. By installing solar panels in your home, you can cut down your energy bills drastically and can also help save the environment too.

  4. Repair your windows-broken or thin windowpanes can let good amount of heat escape from the rooms, resulting in higher energy bills during winter months. It is advisable to buy double glazing windows to improve energy efficiency in your home. To prevent any leaks along the base of the window, place a door snake along the rim. Sticking bubble wrap to the panes also helps insulate the windows.

  5. Do not leave power buttons on when not using electrical appliances-leaving the cell phone charger on or microwave on or leaving your laptop charger on can waste a lot of energy. Turn off the power buttons when your gadgets are fully charged or when they are not in use.

  6. Turn the lights off-every time you leave the room, turn off the lights. Don't leave the lights on when no one is sitting in a room. It may be convenient to leave the lights open, but it adds on to your monthly energy bills. Plus, it causes a waste of tremendous amount of energy.

  7. Wash full loads of laundry and dishes-rather than washing small loads of laundry and dishes, always wash full loads. Doing smaller and fewer loads results in waste of energy, water, and detergent.

  8. Cook extra-when making dinner, cook extra. You can use the leftovers next day for making quick lunch or breakfast. This will not only help save your hassle and effort, but would make considerable savings in the amount of energy that you consume every time you use your microwave or oven for cooking that yummy salad or healthy fish steaks.

  9. Keep the freezer full-do you know that a full freezer runs more efficiently than the one with a few items in it? You can buy fruits and vegetables and stock them up in your freezer to be used all year round. You can prepare sandwiches, or casserole or a batch of stew and keep it in the freezer for enjoying convenient meals and cutting down on your energy bills.
