Easy Ways to Forget about the Cold Outside

The winter is coming, and no, this is not a sentence from a very popular show with lots of naked people. The hot summer has passed, the rains have already started, unless you are living in the UK where they have never stopped in the first place, but for the rest of us, this is the time where we need to find our umbrellas and get adjusted to the fact that the temperatures are only going to drop lower and lower.

When the snow starts, you're going to be happy the first few minutes or so, until you realize that you hate what happens after the snow mixes with mud. But don't worry, there are a couple of great solutions that can help you totally forget about the cold outside, and that will relax you in more ways than one. You can also use this opportunity to improve something around the house and make this snowy experience more pleasant, and you should do it quickly, while you still can.

Build a real fireplace

Fireplace

While it is true that a fireplace is not a necessity nowadays, but it is a matter of prestige. You deserve a fireplace so that you can pour yourself a glass of wine while reading a book in front of it. It does have some great aura of sophistication, and if you can afford one - you really should think about investing in one. It will require a bit more work than buying that rocking chair that goes with it, but nothing can replace the sound of a crackling fire. This can only be done if you live in a house, and if you live in an apartment, don't despair yet - fireplaces can be placed only for decorative purposes, but on the bright side, you won’t have to buy any wood for it, and it is a much, much cleaner solution.

Buy a bigger bathtub

Let's face it, a bigger bathtub is a good addition to any bathroom at any time, not only during the winter. But just imagine: you just got home from a hard day at work, and you almost froze to death while waiting for a cab or whatever to arrive, and then you prepare a relaxing bath, you fill your tub with hot water, add some bath salts, essential oils and everything else you can come up with to smooth your skin. Then you just lay there, while reading a book or listening to the music. Speaking of music, invest into a pair of waterproof speakers that can be placed in the bathroom and that won't get damaged by all the vapor. Then you can play your favorite songs from your iPod or even connect it wirelessly to your PC.

Install an HVAC system

HVAC

If you don't already have an AC installed, I have no idea what you are waiting for. Not only can an AC be a cheaper solution for heating during the winter and cooling during the summer, only if set properly, but it can also be a good way of decreasing the levels of humidity, especially in a room with lot of people. A HVAC is actually a combination of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, which is the best thing you can find for your home, just make sure to find the solution that suits you the best. So the next time it's snowing like crazy outside, you can look out from your perfectly heated home through a window and smile, knowing that you don't even need to put on some pants today - it's that warm.

Buy a few scented candles

Never underestimate the power of a pleasant smell. We all try to make our homes smell the best they can, since it shows that a house is spotless clean. But in the winter, windows are not opened as regularly as during the summer, and because of that, it is a good idea to buy a few scented candles or some fragrance oils that can be placed around the house so that they release some wonderful smells. You even have pre-made solutions in every shop, as electric air fresheners are an extremely good solution, and I heartily recommend apple & cinnamon, since that combination is perfect for the winter, and it reminds us of Christmas. All of this can help you feel relaxed, will make your home a more comfortable place to live in, and before you know it, the winter will be over.
