Choosing the Right Juicer for You

blenderJuicers have been becoming more popular recently and for good reason. They provide you with a high concentration of nutrients with relatively little effort. These machines have made it easier for you to fulfill your daily fruit and veggie requirement. This helps people maintain a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle. As wonderful as these machines are, it can be difficult to choose one that suits your particular needs. This article will outline the main features of juicers so you can better understand how to choose the one that suits you best.

Centrifugal Juicers

There are three different mechanisms by which juicers extract the nutritious juices that neatly flow into your glass. Centrifugal juicers utilize a spinning basket with grater-like sides to turn the fruit or vegetable into a mush. Because the basket is spinning so fast, the mush is forced to the sides while the juice flows through the holes in the basket. Once the juice is extracted, the pulp is then ejected through a pulp dispenser. These juicers are typically simple to use, relatively clean to use and relatively cheaper than its alternative. For the average person, the centrifugal juicer seems to be the most popular. With its relatively small price tag and easy maintenance, this is not really surprising.

Masticating Juicers

These juicers use a very different mechanism to extract the juices from your fruits or vegetables. Masticating juicers force the produce down a tube via a slowly rotating auger-like screw. This chews the produce up into a mush which is then forced through a tapered tube where the juices are separated from the pulp with a mesh screen. There is a debate concerning whether or not masticating juicers are better than centrifugal juicers. It is argued that the heat generated by the high RPM basket in the centrifugal juicers heats the juice and effectively eliminates essential enzymes from it. Despite this debate, it is generally agreed that masticating juicers are typically more expensive and messier than centrifugal juicers.

Citrus Press

These are incredibly simple juicers that are used to extract the juice from lemons and other citrus fruit. These utilize a reamer onto which you place your citrus fruit that has been sliced in half. You then push the fruit down onto the reamer using a lever or a motorized mechanism to force the juice out. These juicers are mostly limited to citrus fruits, so unless you only want to juice citrus fruits, you are better off buying one of the other two kinds.

Features

Once you have decided which kind of juicer you want, you can move onto the specifics. By this I mean you can begin to pay attention to the wattage of the motor in the juicer, whether or not the juicer has different speed settings and whether or not there is an overload sensor. You can find a useful analysis on these different features on www.juicercruiser.com. Features such as variable speed settings can be incredibly useful for juicing various kinds of fruits and vegetables. However, some of these special features won’t be very helpful and they might not be very appealing to you. It is important to take these features into account and refrain from paying extra for features you don’t want.

Juicers can provide easy access to the nutrients that are necessary for a healthy diet but if you choose the wrong juicer, you may end up with an appliance you never use. Regardless of what kind of juicer you purchase, a certain level of commitment is required to stick to your juicing regimen. With that being said, some juicers are messier than others and so require more of a commitment. Keep this in mind when you are choosing your juicer. The information contained in this article should help you understand the various options that are available to you and therefore help you make an informed decision when purchasing your juicer.
