In recent years, we have been assaulted by all kinds of promises of success and instant healing, something more like the ness from the packet: personal development advisors, coaches, healers, facilitators, healers, and even shamans. All the Middle Ages revisited and added to flood us with energies, karmas, horoscopes, charms, predictions, constellations, and other… illusions. A mixture of supernatural, paranormal, and abnormal, astrology, parapsychology, and occultism from which science has completely disappeared. In just one hour (paid dearly), a weekend, or a maximum of a week, we are promised wealth, fulfillment, absolute happiness, and $success. You didn’t go to at least three classes, didn’t you do any magic this week? You live for nothing, how the hell do you want to be successful?! Personal development has become something more like a “10 kg in a week” diet. Dozens of ways, few results. You took some action and had a failure (it’s called “bad luck”)”. Stay stupid with karma mr; do something with her otherwise…you will not see happiness in this life.
And so…
Of course, all this could not exist without those who “guide” you. They are easy to recognize: they have dozens of courses and diplomas of everything and nothing, weekend specializations in astrograms, energies, crystals, angels, and healing. Some greet you with “namaste” (“hello” is outdated) and have a flower-power look with a little dust on their nose… In any case, they have a solution for everything and everyone. Did it not go well for you? The advancement has gone, your girlfriend left you, it’s your fault, you did something wrong, go to the energies or see how your planets are, they might be “misaligned”….
What is easily observed is the lack of long-term, scientific studies (not weekend courses) significant to the field (psychology or medicine) in the biographies of the new healers. Many display dozens of services offered, but if you look for them “at studies” they are at least “thin” or nonexistent. In the age of speed of gain and immediate result, who the hell wants to waste time for years and years studying and reading hundreds of books, studies, and scientific research when everything is happening “now”?
Here’s what one of those who offer such “weekend specializations” promises in the wonderful job of “personal development advisor”:
“…theoretical knowledge and practical skills to conduct both individual and group counseling sessions, both for individuals, as well as for legal entity beneficiaries…”
“You don’t have to follow long and expensive studies, because this course offers you simple strategies built on years of study and experience”
And things don’t stop here: the future counselor, trained (?!) on a Friday, Saturday, and half of a Sunday, will be able to do individual and couple, group and group, business and non-business counseling!!! It will be possible to “deal” closely – the word “almost” belongs to me, the original version is “of all” – the aspects of human life and activity…
That is, human life and problems are so simple and predictable that in just one weekend ANYONE (it is not no related specialization required) will teach you to treat them. “Success and happiness just a weekend away” seems to be the motto of these new “professionals” in the human mind.
Coaches, advisors, and facilitators promise the sea with salt in just a few sessions.
“Somehow” everyone misses the following:
– what essentially defines a man is his personality. This is a sum of elements (behaviors, attitudes, characteristics, mechanisms) built over time. That is a STRUCTURE. A structure that cannot be understood and cannot be changed in an hour/day/weekend;
– human is unique, unrepeatable, and complex. And the human psyche is still far from being understood and will probably remain so forever. Those who deal with the human psyche already know that they will have to study all the time. To think that you will understand (and use) in a weekend or a month what has been taught at school for decades is not only wrong but also dangerous
– the failure, the mistake, most of the time has some well-installed mechanisms in depth. And in order to change these mechanisms, we also need…understanding (awareness) and major efforts for change.
– nothing is mentioned about the multitude of problems that a man encounters in his life: life history, traumas, accidents, etc., which you cannot approach with preconceived texts, with standard formulas.
And last but not least, the new healers completely ignore a basic principle in the world of true professionals: “Primum non nocere”. That is: “first of all, it doesn’t hurt”. How can the one who will become a specialist in people over the weekend learn how (at least) not to do harm if he cannot do good? How will he learn that just one word can destroy a man or throw him into a crisis or even psychotic decompensation? How will they at least learn to recognize people with serious (mental) problems?
But, all this is not important. At the moment when money is made quickly matters more, just like studies, MAN moves to another level…
In the era of fast things, psychology has come to be learned between two coffee breaks.
