Tired Of Shaving? Try Laser Hair Removal!

If removing unwanted and unsightly body hair on a daily basis feels time-consuming you may want to think about laser hair removal as an alternative. Many women and even some men cannot stand to have hair in unwanted places. Whether it’s the back, chest, arms, buttocks or armpits, you surely have a spot you just deeply wish there was no hair. I feel your pain. Especially as it’s beach season!

Nothing is worse than shaving as the hair only comes back thicker and faster. Shaving also becomes time-consuming and costly as razors are not cheap. Unless of course, you are a member at the dollar shave club.

What if there was another option? Well, there is and it’s called laser hair removal! Laser hair removal is safe for all parts of the body to permanently remove or reduce body hair and is especially effective on the legs.

What is Laser Hair Removal

I’ve already talked about how much of a pain shaving is. You’ve probably already also tried plucking, tweezing and even waxing as methods to remove your annoying hair. So what exactly is laser hair removal? This widely used aesthetic procedure offers a convenient, noninvasive alternative to reduce or remove unwanted facial and/or body hair. It can safely be used on your face, arms, legs, underarms, bikini line as well as other areas. So gentle on the skin it has the added benefit of leaving skin smoother and silkier, unlike waxing, electrolysis or shaving. Large areas can be treated in a single session with no downtime and little discomfort.

Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal

The lasers in use today are safe whether you have dark hair and light skin and shades in between. It’s a great alternative to daily waxing, bleaching or electrolysis treatment or if you feel self-conscious about facial or body hair.

How does it work

Each person has their own hair growth cycle and treatments are tailored for each person’s cycle. The laser works by focusing beams of highly concentrated light into hair follicles the pigment in the follicle absorbs the light and destroys the hair. As the laser delivers these pulses it will destroy many follicles at a time and results in hair loss of 15 to 30% with each treatment. Hair color, skin color as well as the strength of laser a person can tolerate determine the results of treatment.

Preparing for laser hair removal

Before your first laser hair removal treatment, your aesthetician will answer any questions you have and provide some guidelines to prepare for your session. These might include the following: not wearing sunscreen to your treatment & avoiding the sun before treatment to prevent tanning your skin, Stop using bleaching cream if you have darker skin, No plucking, waxing or electrolysis before your treatment. You will have a numbing cream applied before treatment so any discomfort will be minimal.

After The First Treatment

Now this is the moment you have been waiting for! But hold on a moment as one treatment isn’t enough. But after your first treatment, you’ll experience smoother skin and a reduction in the number of hairs in the area treated. Some redness or minor skin irritation is possible. Follow up treatments are scheduled in 4 to 5-week intervals. Each patient will need between 3 to 8 sessions to experience permanent hair removal. It would be amazing it was a tone time treatment but that’s just not how it works.

Are There Any Side Effects?

If you like what you hear so far about laser hair removal you might be wondering what, if any, side effects there are from treatments.

The side effects will vary and depend on your skin type, hair color, treatment plan and how well you follow the pre and post-treatment instructions. With all that said, the most common side effects of laser hair removal are:

  • Skin irritation
  • Temporary discomfort
  • Redness and swelling

If you happen to experience any of these side effects, signs and symptoms will most likely disappear within a couple of hours.

If you are ready to move forward, I suggest you seek out a professional and well-reviewed laser skin clinic near you. Be sure to do your research as treatments are not cheap.

I hope that you enjoy a life full of less hair and more confidence!
