Signs of a Failed Dental Implant

Dental implant just like any other procedure can go through a failure or complication. The failure can be as a result of negligence, poor dental hygiene, or external factors.Even if carried out by an expert, a dental implant can still go wrong.

The dental implant itself is not a procedure that can be taken lightly, it is scary to many people, and that is why many people are anxious about undergoing the procedure. Choosing an experienced dentist for the procedure can increase the odds that guarantee success. This is why when you want to get a dental implant, you should visit a skilled and qualified dentist who will ensure that the procedure is done perfectly.

If you experience the following signs, don’t hesitate to visit a dentist as soon as possible before the situation deteriorates.

  1. Inflammation of the gums

The swelling of the gums can be normal after the surgery, but if the swelling persists and the gums get inflamed, then it becomes a worrying issue. When the gum becomes red and inflamed, then it’s a sign of infection.

If an infection is not treated, it can spread to the other parts of the mouth, and it can even spread to the blood, causing a very severe condition. If you notice an inflammation at the first discovery, you should notify your dentist so that it can be treated at the early stage.

When the inflammation becomes severe, it becomes much harder to treat it, and it will cause intense pain. The doctor will prescribe some antibiotics and anti-bacterial mouthwash to be used three times a day to fight off further infection.

  1. Too much pain and tooth discomfort

It is obvious to feel pain during the healing process. But too much pain can also be a sign of a failed dental implant. One way to differentiate between the two pains is to keep in mind the pain that you feel immediately the implant has been sealed,it is the normal one.

This pain is part of the healing process and it will last for a few days. If your pain extends long after the surgery, then that might be a sign of implant failure. You should see a dentist as soon as possible. If it turns out to be a failure, then it would be easier to deal with it because it wouldn’t be late.

  1. Difficulty in chewing or biting

If you experience pain or discomfort while chewing or biting on something, this can be as well a sign of a failed dental implant. Implants look and feel like natural teeth, so they should not feel different at any time. If you feel pain while chewing or biting, this can be a sign of a failed dental implant.

Just like when you feel pain while chewing with natural teeth can be a sign of cavity, pain while chewing with an implant also shows that something is wrong. So you should see your dentist right away, because if the problem is not solved immediately, then it can get worse.

  1. Loose Implants

When the implant is properly placed, it should feel normal as your natural teeth. In fact, if the procedure is done perfectly, you won’t even know that you have an implant. You should not feel like you have a foreign object in your mouth. The implants should be firm and secure just like the natural teeth.

A firm implant is one way of knowing if the implant is in a good state. If an implant is loose, it can do more damage to the mouth, and the issue should not be brushed off. A loose implant is a big sign of a failed dental implant.

In severe failures of these nature, the implant must be taken out so that no further damage occurs. This is why it is vital that you consult your dentist as soon as you discover the loose implants so that the problem is addressed promptly. If left unattended to, this problem can cause very severe damage to your gums and mandible which can affect the appearance of your smile and your daily life.
