What to Consider when Buying an E-liquid

e-liquidsWith literally thousands of e-liquid options available on the market, it can be overwhelming to try and find the best one for you.

First stop – what is e-liquid made of? E-liquid is typically comprised of four main ingredients:

  1. Propylene glycol or PG
  2. Vegetable glycerin of VG
  3. Natural and artificial food flavourings
  4. Nicotine (sometimes but not always, in different concentrations)

In this article, we are going to discuss the specific topics that will help you choose the liquid that is the most suitable for you.

  • The ratio of PG to VG
  • The amount of nicotine in any liquid
  • The flavours that are available

The base of any e-liquid is comprised of VG and PG. The ratio of PG to VG is often written on the bottle. An e-liquid with a higher PG will typically have a higher “throat hit” that is the feeling in your lungs similar to the feeling you have when smoking a traditional cigarette. PG also vaporizes at a slightly lower temperature and is considered by many to deliver more flavour.

An e-liquid with a higher VG content, is smoother and produces much less of a throat hit. Also, it produces more vapours resulting in larger clouds which can be fun.

The nicotine concentration of an e-liquid is shown in percentages or in milligrams per millilitre. The nicotine concentration also influences the throat hit as discussed earlier. The higher the nicotine content, the more powerful the throat hit is. the most common strengths are: 0 mg, 3 mg, 6 mg, 12 mg, and 18 mg. A single traditional cigarette contains somewhere from 8 mg to 20 mg of nicotine but the body only absorbs about 1 mg out of that.

The amount of nicotine you get while vaping greatly depends on the quality of vapes your device produces. As a general rule, the smaller the device, the less vapours it is going to produce. For example, if your vaping device is light or cigarette-like, most probably 12 mg is enough for you. However, if you are vaping using a larger device like a box mod, 6 mg or 3 mg might be a better fit. The important thing is to adjust accordingly to the strength that feels right for you.

As for flavours, there are hundreds if not thousands of different flavours available. The only way to figure out what flavour is best for you is to try them and find out which ones you like best. Also, different brands come with different quality for their products. Accordingly, the price varies with the expensive ones usually featuring the best quality products. Manufacturers such as Halo, Cosmic fog or Black Note have best tobacco blends and are top rated brands by the e-cigarette users.
