How to make your electric scooter go faster

Have you ever wondered why many people use the Xiaomi electric scooter as a fun way to get from place to place? There are a lot of reasons that make this mode of travel a favorite of many.

First, unlike a regular motorcycle or car, you don’t need a driver’s license to use a Xiaomi electric scooter. Hatred! All you need is a hard hat or other protective clothing, and Voila! You’re ready to go!

Yes, if you want an economical, fun, and relatively simple ride, get yourself a Xiaomi electric scooter and that’s it! Moreover, if you follow the right tips, you can make your electric scooter go very fast.

But the question is: how fast can electric scooters actually go? And is there anything you can do to increase the speed of an electric scooter? That is exactly what we would like to know. Let’s jump right into it!

Remove the scooter’s speed limiter

Remarkably, the electric scooter is capable of reaching a much higher top speed than you can imagine; you’re just probably not aware of it!

Why does this happen? Simple: An electric scooter comes with a built-in (and hidden) speed limiter. Many find this intriguing; why should this gadget be so inconspicuously fixed in the system? What is its function? Why is it there?

Well, that’s good to know; the manufacturer of the electric scooter fixed this speed limiter because most countries have made laws that prohibit these machines from reaching a higher limit. This means that the speed limiter is there to prevent the scooter from reaching its limit.

Therefore, if you want to run at full speed, the solution is also simple; remove the built-in speed limiter.

Keep in mind that every scooter is essentially different. Therefore, you need to use different methods to achieve this. Generally, if your scooter uses a DC type drive motor, you just need to locate the sensor on the drive-wheel drive system.

This little device shows how fast the drive wheel is turning; then signals the processor to throttle the scooter so it doesn’t reach full speed.

You need to understand how the speed limit system works. First of all, a Xiaomi electric scooter has sensors that control the cumulative speed of the pedals and the drive wheel.

Speed limiters are generally regulated by a computer built into the engine and electronic sensors. The signals are then sent to the computer, limiting engine power and keeping the car moving at a slower speed.

Careful! There is a high risk of injury when removing the speed limiter from your scooter. In addition, its battery will drain faster.

In general, if your scooter is designed with a brushless DC motor, it usually reaches its speed limit via the oscillator. To remove it, you need to go deep into the software.

Change the firmware

There are scooters whose original firmware has been modified by other users. Download the modified version – this will increase the speed of the scooter. When the constant power of the motor is increased, it usually achieves higher torque and higher speed.

Be careful – if you live in a hot country, you should carefully monitor the temperature of the scooter with the help of an app.

Once you increase the constant power of the motor, the temperature of the scooter will increase. This can be a problem in the summer, especially if you push the scooter to its limits on steeper slopes.

Upgrade your existing battery

Both the battery and the motor power determine how fast the scooter will go. These batteries are usually available in the 24-48 volt variant. The voltage differs from one model to another. However, the 24-volt battery is commonly used in most units.

You just need to replace your current battery with a better version. Indeed, if you want a stronger charge to help push your vehicle to top speed, you need to make sure you have a strong battery.

However, you have to be careful. This is a complicated process that could make or break your scooter if something goes wrong. Why? Once the battery is replaced, you may not know if the scooter’s speed will actually increase or if the machine will simply burn out.

If you replace a 24-volt battery with a 48-volt one, you may cause the controller to overheat. This could end up destroying your device eventually!

What is the solution? Just connect the battery to the motor and remove the controller. Alternatively, reprogram the device to supply the motor with a higher voltage. Again, be careful. If you don’t use some technical skills, you can lose your scooter while trying to make it faster.
