How to get duplicate Aadhaar card in case of loss of original?

ferfewThe Modi government introduced the system of the unique identification number or the Aadhaar card for every Indian citizen or individual. This is mandatory, and each person irrespective of age or gender has to get enrolled for this. Such a step has been appraised and holds several benefits for public and the government authorities as proclaimed by the government. Although, no fruitful results are seen. Still, it’s debatable. Well that another topic altogether. Here in this article, we will tell you what you should you do in the event of theft/loss or misplace of your original Aadhaar card.

Directives for dulicate adhaar card

The department of UIDAI has given clear directives in the event of misplacing or loss of an individual’s Aadhaar card and the Aadhaar card duplication. There are two procedure or process, using either of which you can apply for a duplicate Aadhaar card.

First: This has two options

Option 1: you can contact the department of the issue of the unique identification number or UIDAI directly via email or a phone call. The department’s customer care unit will help and guide you in obtains a duplicate Aadhaar card. Follow their directive to receive the duplicate copy of your Aadhaar card by post at your residence. This process is although time-consuming, so if you are in urgent need of your Aadhaar number do not take this step, rather follow e-Aadhaar card duplication step discussed later.

Option 2: if you have a local register office or unit of Aadhaar card issuing authority near or in your locality, you can easily approach them, and they will help. All you need to do here is follow same steps as you did while filing for your original Aadhaar card. Give you personal details, verify them, give your thumb and retina impressions and scan and a duplicate Aadhaar card will be issued in your name that will reach your home by post in next 15-20 days. You can undertake this process if are in no rush, and also have an office near you.

Second: this step too has two options that are discussed in details hereafter.

One, if you have retained the copy of your original Aadhaar card acknowledgment slip. Second, if you have misplaced the slip and did not remember the Aadhaar card number. Let us study both the event in details:

Scenario 1: you have retained first acknowledgment slip and knew your Aadhaar number.

This process is the same as if you were applying for an e-Aadhaar card number. Follow these simple steps, and you can download an electronic version of your Aadhaar card that you can print.

Step1: log in to the registration website of the department UIDAI, using the link that was sent to your registered mobile number via SMS

Step2: you have to fill in your details as mentioned on your form the time you applied for original Aadhaar. Using the acknowledgment number that you have retained enter it in the form and validate.

Step3: verify your details and the online form through verification code that will be sent to the registered mobile number.

Step 4: save and proceed to download the e-Aadhaar using your location zip code.

Step 5: Take the print out of the downloaded e-Aadhar card and retain the copy for use as a duplicate Aadhaar card.

Scenario:2 When you have lost both your original Aadhaar card and its acknowledgment slip and did not remember the Aadhaar number.

This process too is straightforward to follow, just follow the following steps to regain access to Aadhaar card duplication.

Step1: Visit the official UIDAI website and Look for the section that is designed to obtain lost Aadhaar card number or acknowledgment number particularly.

Step2: fill in your information like email, mobile number, name, address and file request

Step 3: A one-time password will be sent to your register mobile number that you entered in the previous step. Use this OTP to verify your details.

Step 4: you will shortly receive an SMS that will contain either your Aadhaar card number or the acknowledgment slip number. Using this number you can now apply for an e-Aadhaar card using the link on the website.

Step 5: now you access to either your Aadhaar number of acknowledgment number, use this number to file for the e-Aadhaar card and fill in your details again.

Step 6: Here again you will be sent a verification SMS on your registered mobile number to verify and validate the details you entered.

Step 7: a copy of e-Aadhaar card will be generated that you can download and save.

Step 8: Print the copy and retain it for use as Aadhaar card or your identification number.

It is now advised that you should always keep an electronic version of your original Aadhaar card saved in your computer or emails. This will save you from all unnecessary hassle, and you can easily print the downloaded copy of your Aadhaar card and use it. Although, it will be good if you inform the department of the loss of your original Aadhaar card and letting them you retain a duplicate copy. This will keep you on the safer side if your lost Aadhaar card is put to wrong use.
