Introvert and Extrovert at Work

People are different, each of us has certain personality traits that define who we are. And while it’s impossible to completely classify someone into a single group, to some extent we can define what type we are. In this article, we will lean toward the distinction between the typical introvert and the typical extrovert. We will consider what advantages and disadvantages derive from having those personality traits.

1. Who is an introvert

Introverts are a social group characterized by the fact that they feel more comfortable in a small, familiar group. Introverts often have a hard time building new relationships. Being an introvert doesn’t have to immediately mean not wanting to interact with other people. Introverts are much more comfortable when left alone. People with introverted personalities perform much better than extroverted ones. They’re not the type to get ahead of the pack, which means that in a larger group, they’re unlikely to throw ideas left and right and keep them to themselves.

2. Who is an extrovert

Extroverts are at the opposite end of the scale from introverts. They tend to be fun, open-minded, and friendly people. They feel great in the center of a group and are eager to get ahead of the pack. They consult their ideas with others and enjoy discussing them. More than their own abilities, extroverts rely much more on cooperation with others. It is common for an extrovert to lead introverts by using their skills on a project.

3. What type are you

As a rule, each of us is aware of whether he is a more introverted or extroverted person. However, depending on the situation, we can manifest our dominant personality to a greater or lesser degree. We must remember that there are no 100% extroverts or 100% introverts. If we have trouble determining our personality, we should ask those around us for advice. It can surprise us how different the opinion of those around us is from the one we had of ourselves.

4. An introvert at work

Introverts will be found where great skills are needed in a particular field and, at the same time, contact with other people is limited. Because introverts are confident in their abilities, at the same time they pay much more attention to the knowledge they acquire and are more willing to develop themselves in their fields. If we give an introvert a space in which they feel safe, then we will significantly increase their participation in projects.

5. Outgoing at work

Extroverts are the people who are most comfortable working with other people. They are the people who will find themselves best in a job where emotions count more than skills. An extrovert will lead a team through a project better than an introvert. It should be remembered that, although extroverts are highly predisposed to lead a group, they themselves are often not capable of performing the tasks they entrust to their subordinates. Therefore, it is worth including in the management team, in addition to the extroverts, a typically introverted person who brings his experience to the team.

As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, there are no people who can be clearly assigned to one of the mentioned groups. On the contrary, each of us has a personality that dominates us around other people. Whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, you have the advantages and disadvantages that come with having a certain personality group.
