4 Driving Emergency Situations on the Road and How to Overcome them

1203Bucks-TowTruck-blog480Unless you follow safety tips, driving on the highway is a highly risky affair for you. If you drive a passenger vehicle, then watch out for the emergency situations, which may occur any time on the road, and put you and your vehicle at stake.

You need to know the driving emergencies. In this article, I will make you familiar with them. The very first one in the list is

Motorcycles and pedestrians

In the United States, more than one third of road accidents involve vehicles crossing a T-junction or a Y-junction. The statistics have credibility because it comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Many drivers, who hit pedestrians or small vehicles and arrested later, report it was difficult for them to spot a motorcycle or a pedestrian.

Drivers are strongly recommended to brake and look meticulously for small cars and pedestrians before taking a turn. If they are to take a U-turn, they should look through the passenger window at the back of the car. Remember, you may be following all the traffic rules but there are many others, who are not.

Tire blowout

I think I should've mentioned it in the beginning. Tire blowouts are among the chief reasons for collisions. It's a driving emergency, which you can't ignore. Despite taking a very good care of your front and back tires, they can still blow out.

If a truck is hauling a weight that exceeds the prescribed limit, and if the total weight leans to a particular side, the tire may blow out. Remember, the ways of handling a vehicle with blown-out tire are the same, regardless of whether you drive an automobile or a full size trailer-truck.

Whether the blown-out tire is on the front or at the back, it might cause a speeding vehicle to crash with another vehicle or run over a pedestrian. If your front tire blows out, keep steering the vehicle, so it gradually loses the speed. If it's the back tire instead, step on the accelerator, so the car doesn't lose the momentum, and keep driving in a straight line.

Panic attack

Sometimes, it's difficult for a driver to suddenly stop. He realizes the gravity of the situation, but still finds it difficult to stop his vehicle because of a sudden panic attack. Suppose you are driving on a highway behind a trailer-truck, and the truck spills its load. You might get shivers down your spine seeing this and forget to stop your car.

The computerized anti-lock braking system (ABS) can save you. You should embed it with your car. The ABS works in quite a fascinating manner. You don't need to know its technical side, from the user's end, activating an ABS is just stomping on it, keeping the foot this way, and steering the wheel. This will make your vehicle stop.

If your vehicle has the electronic stability control (ESC), then you are safe because ESC comes with ABS. Even though ABS helps you to avoid accidents, you need to use it properly. It's possible when you stomp on it vigorously.

Flip and spin

It's the type of driving emergency, which could be avoided if the driver drives sensibly. What happens is the driver loses control and two wheels of the vehicle run off the road. According to auto experts, if the driver keeps himself steady and drives on, the wheels would soon touch the pavement.

But nine out of ten drivers get panicked when the wheel is off the road, and start to over-correct themselves. This causes the vehicle to spin. The spinning vehicle flips and lands upside down. If your vehicle is running two wheels off the road, the first thing you should do is take your foot off the accelerator. It will help you the car to slow down. As the car slows down, try to steer back on the road smoothly.

Follow the tips

Driving emergencies can occur any time. To be on the safe, you need to follow the tips, which I've laid here in this article. Always look for strollers and motorcycles on the road, never freak out and most importantly, drive a car, equipped with high-end technologies. This way you can drive safe on the road.
