The Best Mobile Apps For Children

kids-with-iphoneThere are thousands of iPhone apps available nowadays for everything from checking the weather to making your notes to games for people of every age.

You can easily occupy your children in a waiting room or in line at the airport with one or several of these downloaded games and mobile Apps. The best apps for children would be the ones that incorporate and combine fun with learning. Here is a list of apps that will hopefully teach children a few things while they have fun.

1. SUPER WHY!

This is based on a PBS show for preschool children.

There are a bunch of mini games that include reading, writing, spelling and rhyming. Children between the ages of 3 to 6 will enjoy this game. Unfortunately the theme song will be ingrained in your head forever but that is a small price to pay for your child's welfare!

2. THE PIANIST

If you aspire to have a Mozart in the family, here’s a way to transform your iPhone into an 88 key piano. Your children can over-dub, record and playback their master piece as often as they like.

This app is recommended for children from the ages of 4 and up.

3. HELICOPTER TAXI

Helicopter-Taxi

This app uses your phone’s camera to create the effect of a flying helicopter. You steer the helicopter by moving the phone around. Not only does this app have 3D effects, but also clear graphics for your 3 year old aspiring pilot.

4. POCKET FROGS

If your son is constantly putting lizards and frogs in a box, this is a great game for both of you. Your child can collect, trade and breed frogs in customized habitats. Four year olds and up will enjoy this vivid app.

5. CUT THE ROPE

Om Nom has to solve puzzles, and catch stars in order to earn candy.

This cute, but ugly monster is sure to keep your child occupied all through that long drive. The downside is, you may never get your phone back.

6. PLANTS VS. ZOMBIES

Plant-vs-Zombies

When 26 zombies come looking for a fight, your team of plants is ready to do battle. These aren’t ordinary plants. These shrubs will make mulch of those ghouls.

There are 50 levels of play and you and your spouse and the kids will have a blast trying to outdo each other, but don’t forget it's for 9 year olds so don’t hog the phone.

7. DISNEY FAIRIES FLY

Have you had to watch and re-watch Peter Pan over and over? Has Tinkerbell been reincarnated in your house? Here’s your pixie solution.

Guiding the fairy through the pixie hollow is as simple as tilting the device. Collect treasures and avoid obstacles to make it through to the next level.

It also comes with a collection of wallpapers and mini videos and is recommended for ages 3 and up.

8. AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY: DINOSAURS

If you have a paleontologist-in-the-making on your hands, this is the app to download. The interface begins with an amazing mosaic of dinosaur photos (more than 800) that make up an image of a T-Rex. Your child can tap on any one of those images to drill down to information on the creature featured. This is definitely an app you’ll enjoy alongside your little one.

This is by no means a comprehensive list. There are thousands of mobile applications to choose from to suit all ages and interests. Who said learning has to be boring? Not only will these apps save you from tantrums thrown by bored children, but also teach them a few skills along the way.
