The Significance of Colors in Your Home

Colors have forever been used to express different emotions and feelings. They are believed to have their own distinct aura and feel that can be translated through their use in multiple objects. For instance, red is known to be the color of love, affection and passion whereas yellow or amber tones are famously known for radiating warmth and energy. Purple is considered the color of royalty, extravagance and affluence whereas blue is famous for its soul-soothing and relaxing impression. Hence, if appropriately used, colors can work to create wonders when it comes to designing your personal space. You can give your home a different ambience simply by employing the right shades of colors in your home décor and furnishings.

Designing your home and selecting appropriate colors from a thousand different tones can be a bit of an overwhelming task. Initially, it is very confusing to decide upon one shade. You might find one too intense but the other one too pale. Some shades might be too bold and some too dab, some too much for the eyes to take in at once and some too neutral. Therefore, it is not an easy task to come up with a color that not only fits your mood but also blends in with the general space of your room. It is important to keep in mind that some colors can have a very dominant effect and can make your room area look too small, while there are other colors that can create an illusion of expanded space. So before you decide upon a color, it is important to look into these details as well.

The best scheme, however, is to select the right proportion of different shades to create a harmonic combination. You don't want to go for too much dazzle, glitzy-glam night club look because it is just too exaggerated for a normal home space. Neither do you want to opt for an earthy and mundane ambience because it is boring and dull. You need to find an arrangement in between so that there is just the right amount of pop and balance.

As we mentioned earlier, that colors have a different psychology and reflect varying moods, therefore it is important to understand what each color stands for or symbolizes. Here is a guide to help you select a color to create your desired mood and look.

Blue

Blue, the color of sea and sky, without doubt radiates a soothing and relaxing feel. It is meant to leave a comforting and calming feeling and can be used to recreate the effect. However, fanatical attempts to drape every piece of your furniture to match the blue walls can look a bit odd as well as create a cold environment. Therefore, it is better to stick to warm shades of blue such as haze and foggy blue and avoid the excessive use of metallic tones. Also, it is a good idea to blend blue with white furnishings or balance it by using it with a warmer tone of pale yellow.

Red

Red is one of those colors that radiate extreme energy, passion and feelings therefore a lot of people hesitate to use it in their homes as it is considered too intense. Though using the right shades of red can create a warm and energizing environment, it is true that its overuse can lead to a bit of an overdramatic effect. It is particularly a good color to use if you want to add a tad of color to a mundane space. Adding furniture with accents of red or placing bright red cushions on a plain white sofa are some good uses of this color.

Yellow

Symbolizing the warmth of the sun, yellow is considered to be a comforting and energizing shade. If you want to add light to a smaller room or create an illusion of wider space in your home, you cannot go wrong with choosing a good shade of yellow. It is refreshing, revitalizing and stimulating in all its shades. However, it is always a better idea to not over employ this color. Combine it with a nice balancing tone and you will feel the color radiating off happiness and warmth all around your house.
