Tips to Cure Insomnia at Home, the Natural Way

tired-manNo one wants to live a life without sleep. If you have ever suffered with insomnia then you’ll know that lying awake at night is extremely frustrating. Sometimes it can seem like such a vicious circle-you can’t sleep so you get annoyed and then you can’t sleep because you are annoyed. Of course we all have the odd night where worries and woes of the day before keep us awake, but if this is a regular occurrence then now is the time to do something about it! The good news is that a cure for insomnia is out there and you don’t have to take lots of medications or undergo treatment for them to be successful. In fact there are a number of home remedies that you can try, which all aim to give you a much better and more rested night sleep.

Make Yourself Comfortable

You need to make sure that your bed is the right one for you. Have a think about the last time you changed the mattress or bought new pillows. If your bed is old then replacing these items can make all the difference. Have an experiment with different types of mattresses before you invest in a new one to make sure that you do not buy one that is too hard or too soft for your needs. You’ll be surprised at just how much difference a comfortable bed can make. Also look at whether you are too hot or too cold during the night and whether you could benefit from a change in bedding.

Sleeping Conditions

Of course the room you are sleeping in will make all the difference too. If you have sunlight coming through the curtains or you are disturbed by noise then this is going to have an effect on just how well you sleep. Invest in decent curtains and make sure you do what you can to have minimal disruption. You need to be as relaxed as possible when sleep time comes to make sure you put all your gadgets away and turn off the TV, otherwise these will just give your body and mind temptation to stay awake and that is the last thing you want!

Avoid Coffee

We all know that caffeine is a stimulant-so if you have a cup of coffee a short time before bed it is going to keep you awake. One of the best tips is to make sure that you don’t have anything with coffee in it after about 6pm at night. This gives you enough time to get it out of your system and hopefully should mean that you get a much better night sleep.

Keep To Your Schedule

You might think that the best thing you can do is sleep when you are tired but that is not the case at all. As much as possible you want to try and keep to a schedule when you sleep, so that your body knows when it can expect rest. This means having a set time that you go to bed as well as a time in the morning when you wake up. The odd lie-in won’t hurt too much but as much as possible try and keep to some sort of organised routine when it comes to sleeping times.

Don’t Go To Bed Hungry

If you are hungry then you might find that you struggle to sleep. Have a little snack or a glass of milk to help you drift off much more easily. Go for something that is low-protein but high in carbohydrate as this should help-so a slice of toast a little while before you intend to go to sleep could just be the cure for insomnia that you are looking for.

Take A Supplement

Your local health store probably has a range of supplements that can help when it comes to getting a better night sleep. One recommended supplement is Melatonin which has been proven to help people drift off much more quickly. There is also a medicinal herb called Valerian that could help, so if you can find a supplement that contains this then that could help you sleep more easily.
