Home Fitness vs. Gym Membership

It's the age old question - would my money be better spent on home fitness equipment or on a gym membership? You cannot deny that neither of these choices are overly cheap, but it is important that you spend your money wisely otherwise you may end up regretting your decision. Gym Membership

  • fit-guyIt can be highly motivating to exercise around other people. You might decide to stay on that treadmill for an extra 10 minutes than you originally planned, even if it is just to avoid looking foolish.
  • Gyms often offer classes that you can join whenever the mood strikes, all included in your membership. Having an instructor can be motivating and teach you to perform the exercises correctly.
  • Gyms are filled with different kinds of equipment and weights - a lot more than you would be able to fit into your home. This will give you plenty of choice when it comes to exercising.
  • All of the equipment will be relatively up to date and will be kept in tiptop condition. This means that you will have access to some of the newest technology on the market and that it will very rarely be out of order.
  • Most gyms employ personal trainers that you can make appointments with as a part of your membership. They will help you to achieve your fitness goals with the best possible exercise regime.

Home Fitness Equipment

  • Home FitnessYou won't have to fork out hundreds of dollars for monthly or yearly fees; once you have purchased the equipment, it is yours to keep and there will be few other associated costs.
  • You can jump straight out of bed and onto your treadmill or exercise bike - you won't need to waste precious exercise time getting changed, making sure that your hair looks perfect or driving to the gym.
  • You can pop on a movie or watch television whilst working out. Whilst it is possible to do this at the gym, there is often no sound (unless you're using special equipment) and you cannot watch what you want.
  • Many pieces of equipment designed for home use can be easily stored away when not in use. This means that you won't have to worry about losing important space in your spare room or lounge room.
  • You have the freedom to exercise whenever you are free, regardless of whether it is day or night. Whilst some gyms are open 24 hours, many are still open only at regular hours and get busy at peak times.

As you can see, there are a number of benefits associated with both of these decisions, which ultimately leaves the final choice up to you. If you believe that you will benefit from exercising around others, a gym membership is probably the way to go. If you would prefer to do things in your own time, home fitness equipment will probably be the best fit. Good luck reaching your fitness goals!
