Eating 4 Or 5 Small Meals Per Day Is Healthier!

healthy meal with fish and vegetablesA very effective weight control tip is to actually eat 4 or 5 times per day instead of the traditional 2 or 3 times. I know this doesn't sound possible but it's true! You see, eating fewer meals in a day actually causes your body to store more fat. By eating 4 or 5 small meals per day, instead of the traditional 2 or 3 larger meals, you will have more energy, as well as store less fat in the body.

The human body is very intelligent and complex. When the body realizes it is only being fed a few times per day, it actually protects itself from starvation by storing more food as fat to later use as fuel if needed. As the body stores this fat, it uses your protein reserves for fuel instead, which is not an efficient source of energy.

By eating 4 or 5 small meals in a day, the body burns more fat for energy, leaving your protein reserves to be used for what they are intended, like tissue and cell repair, muscle growth, etc.

Once you get in the habit of eating something light every 3 to 4 hours or so, you will find that you cannot comfortably sit down and eat a huge meal any longer:) Eating this way also keeps you from that large meal tiredness that is many times experienced after eating. When you eat a large meal your body spends a lot of energy trying to digest it leaving you no energy for anything else.

The important thing is to try getting something healthy into your system each time you eat. A handful of raw nuts or few pieces of fruit make a nice meal if you are not real hungry, or can always replace a meal with a low calorie protein drink.

You can also mix it with water to get this high quality protein without the extra calories. You can experiment by adding some fruit such as dates, bananas, raisins and/ or berries. Add a few spoons of Brewers Yeast to your shake to increase the Protein as well as get all the natural nutrients that are in this amazing supplement.

Something else to bring to mind while eating is the fact that your intelligent brain doesn't always know when you are full, (at least not right away). Most of you do not have enough time to relax while you eat. You are rushed and therefore cannot take your time to properly chew your food. By the time you feel full you are usually stuffed and then pay for it by feeling tired and sluggish afterwards.

If you were to take that same portion of food and actually chewed every bite slowly and thoroughly, allowing yourself the time to do it, you would not even comfortably be able to finish it. You see, the brain needs time to realize that you have had enough and then tell you that you are full. It takes about 10 minutes for the brain to actually let you know you are full, so if you eat slowly, you will realize it before you are totally stuffed.

So how do you create more time to eat? You don't. You simply take smaller portions and chew. Chew slowly making sure everything is totally dissolved before swallowing. Breathe and relax. Force yourself to eat slowly and relaxed in the same amount of time and you will feel full quicker and not eat as much. Simple but effective! So remember- chew, chew, chew and breathe.
