5 Natural Ways to Whiten Yellow or Discolored Teeth

dental-whiteningA beautiful white smile is probably one of the most wanted physical assets. Our teeth are shown every time we talk, eat, smile, and laugh. A set of pearly whites is important in today's culture and is often one of the most single sought after physical appearance items. Unfortunately, aging does not make it easy to keep your teeth nice and white. Neither do the foods and drinks we have today. However, technology has come a long way over the years. There are an amazing amount of products that are easy to use at a reasonable cost.

There are also several natural home remedies you can use to help the whitening process. However, it also important to understand why tooth discoloration happens. As mentioned before, age is certainly the most common cause of discoloration. The things we drink also affect tooth discoloration such as coffee, tea, wine and soda. Smoking is also another common cause of tooth discoloration. Trauma to the teeth, antibiotics as children, and rare teeth conditions can also cause tooth discoloration.
Below are 5 natural ways that will help whiten yellow or discolored teeth. These are a wonderful guide to teeth whitening that are all natural home remedies.

1. Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

The first natural remedy you should try is baking soda and hydrogen peroxide because it breaks down the stain-causing molecules. First, swish about 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide in your mouth for roughly 1 minute and then spit it out. Rinse your mouth out and brush your teeth thoroughly. Next, you will mix the 2 components together by adding 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide to 3 tablespoons of baking soda. Mix it together until it is a nice paste that you will use to brush your teeth with. Brush your teeth thoroughly for 2 minutes and then rinse your mouth out. Last, brush your teeth with your normal toothpaste again to get the nasty taste out of your mouth. It is recommended you do this 2-3 times a week for the best results. Do not over use baking soda, because it can break down the enamel on your teeth. Stick with the recommended 2-3 days a week.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is fantastic for teeth whitening as it increases the calcium metabolism in your body. This helps breakdown the tartar buildup on your teeth, making it an excellent mouthwash. The recommended dosage is 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a cup of water in order to dilute the vinegar a bit. Always brush your teeth before you use this as a mouthwash and shake the apple cider vinegar bottle prior to pouring the teaspoon. Use this 2-3 days a week. Again, follow the recommended 2-3 days a week so that you do not break down your enamel.

3. Strawberries

Strawberries contain malic acid and Vitamin C which makes this an excellent whitener that removes plaque from teeth. Use strawberries with baking soda to make a paste and brush your teeth with it. Mix crushed up strawberries with baking soda until it is a nice enough paste to brush with. Brush all over your teeth and let the paste sit for 5 minutes. Then rinse, brush with your regular tooth paste, and floss. Use this treatment only once a week and you are sure to have whiter teeth.

4. Orange Peel

The inside of an orange peel (the white part) contains many natural solubles that act as a whitener. The best part about using an orange peel is that it is not acidic like many other natural home remedies; therefore, you do not have to worry about it ruining the enamel on your teeth. Peel an orange down to the white part and rub it all over your teeth, rinse, and brush. It is as simple as that. You can do this as many days in a row as you like.

5. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is known for its lauric acid which kills bacteria making it an excellent agent against gingivitis and plaque buildup. ‘Oil pulling' is a fairly new concept, but seems to have received consistently positive reviews. It is recommended that you swish a teaspoon of coconut oil for 5-20 minutes. If you are new to this treatment, start with 5 minutes and work your way up to 20 minutes. The longer you swish the more bacteria you will kill.

Each of these 5 natural home remedies are great for teeth whitening. Make sure you follow the recommended dosage and time-frames so that you do not ruin the enamel. There are several successful reviews written about each of these, so with time and consistency, you will see results.
