If you want to be a fashionista, follow the steps below in order to get you looking like a stylish diva.

  • Do some research

If you want to become a fashionista, you need to immerse yourself into the world of fashion. This will give you different ideas on how to dress and get you acquainted with different trends.

By doing so, you will begin to get a sense of what your preferences are and how you can blend new styles with your current fashion sense.

A good place to start would be fashion magazines. These days, there are many popular fashion magazines available and they can be shipped to most locations around the world. The best thing would be to subscribe to a fashion magazine that you like and get current fashion trends at a discount.

Another great place to do your research is online. There are many fashion websites that can help you create the look you want to be current and modern. You can do your research on sites that sell clothes, fashion blogs and accessories websites, amongst others.

You also need to think out of the box when it comes to fashion. You can create your own trend by looking for fashion pieces that are not main stream.

  • Journalize

As you do your homework, be sure to take notes in a journal. This should be the one place where you can put down what you find during your research so that you can be able to review it all from one place. You don't want a situation where you saw a well put together ensemble as you were doing your research, but you just can't find it when you need it.

These days, the best way to journalize is electronically. There are several applications for PC, Mac and mobile devices that you can use to do this. Two great examples are OneNote and Evernote.

The great thing about such applications is that you can automatically paste website screen clippings into the application. You will then have access to whatever images or notes that you have put in the journal anywhere you go.

If you are at a mall or in school and you see something that you would like to put in your journal, you can take a photo and have it automatically place into your electronic journal.

As you develop your journal, create categories that will help you easily organize all your notes, thoughts and images. You will need to find a system that makes sense to you.

  • What's in your closet?

After you have done your research, you need take some stock. Based on your research, determine what pieces in your closet are actually usable? It may be time to throw out or donate the pieces in your closet that are not part of the look that you want to embrace. You will need to do this for all your clothes, shoes, jewelry and other fashion accessories.

As you purge your closet, keep in mind that Rome was not built in a single day. It will take time and some money to get your closet where it needs to be.

  • Basic Hygiene

To be a fashionista, you need to be able to look immaculate each time you leave home. You cannot afford to have hair out of place or have poor oral hygiene. Being a fashionista is as much about the little things as it is the big ones.

  • Do some shopping

Once you have done your research, gone through your closet and done away with pieces you don't need any more, it's time to have some fun shopping. Go out and look for fashion pieces that you like. Use your journal as your guide.

While shopping, you will definitely have to consider your budget. If you have a good budget, you will have a lot more leeway, but don't let a small budget limit you either. You will just have to be more savvy and creative in order to get the look that you want.

After you have purchased your pieces, go home and use a full length mirror to try the different combinations of your older and new clothes. It may take some trial and error to get the look that you want but don't be shy or scared about being bold. With consistency you will become a fashionista.
