Leadership Styles and Their Impact in an Organization

Leaders play a very significant role in an organization: they inspire employees, they guide them through complex processes, they boost morale and they improve the overall performance of the employees. Despite their important organizational impact, not all leaders are equal. According to their leadership style, they each have their own characteristics.

Charismatic Relators

Leaders that embrace this leadership style use their skills to influence team members but are wise enough to include everybody else's points of view and opinions in the discussions. Employees under their influence feel encouraged to reach their potential no matter how hard the conditions can be.

Visionary Creators

This leadership style defines those leaders that inspire creativity in the workplace. Everybody around them feels important, acknowledged and valued and is challenged to take risks. Inventors, as well as many other creative individuals, usually feel comfortable as visionary creators as they are open to non-conventional and ground-breaking ideas and are not afraid at taking risks.

Entrepreneurial Mobilisers

Leaders that embrace this leadership style are good at creating new opportunities and preparing the organization for them. Inventors are great entrepreneurial mobilisers as they are always on the look for creative ideas and try to apply them on different environments and situations. These leaders are very good at thinking out of the box and at convincing other team members of the validity of their suggested strategy.

Entrpreneurial mobilisers are inspiring for the company as a whole and they are especially needed in start ups or in business organizations that are developing a new area or line of products or services as their entrepreneurial spirit is excellent at keeping the buzz going.

Military Generals

These leaders find it easy to convince others of the importance of sticking to the corporate rules and regulations. They can be a bit authoritarian and have a strong sense of hierarchy. They may find it difficult to work with extremely creative and open minded people such as advertisers or inventors but they are the right leaders to inspire a work team that needs confidence and security.

Military generals are also good leaders in those corporate organizations in which the organization is undergoing a critical situation. They are good at keeping other team members under control and focus on what they need to do so that all efforts are aimed in the same direction.

Practical Problem Solvers

Leaders that are practical problem solvers are fair and good at creating a working environment in which every employee is inspired to collaborate. They are the first ones to adapt to changing situations and make it easier for others to do the same without fear. They have quite an independent leadership style and expect their followers to work independently as well.

Strategic Policy Makers

They help organizations keep on the desired track. They are democratic and always provide a sense of community to the working environment. These leaders feed from other people's ideas and collaborations but expect team members to "walk the talk".

Strategic policy makers know how to naturally inspire team members to feel part of community. Thus, goals are shared and every single individual achievement is seen as a group one.

Needless to say, not all of these leadership styles can be found in every organization and not every organization requires the same kind of leader throughout its history. It is very important for business organizations to be able to distinguish the leadership style of their managers and evaluate to what extent they are in sync with the companies' needs, requirements and expectations and whether or not the leadership style of these managers is the appropriate one in relation to the employees they have under their control.
